WELSH BUSINESSES AT GROWING RISK OF ONLINE FRAUD AND HACKING

Welsh businesses left critically exposed to threats of computer hacking and online fraud!

A survey conducted by leading Welsh IT practice Ikona IT, uncovers a shocking lack of IT security within Welsh Businesses, leaving businesses vulnerable to the ever growing threat of IT crime.

The survey highlighted that up to 46% of businesses questioned have no dedicated IT security policy in place. Whilst 76% allow their staff to access Social Networking sites, however, 46% have no policy or procedure in place to protect against threats in this area.

Spiro Ginis, Managing Director of Ikona said “We’re extremely surprised by the outcome of this survey. We know the majority of businesses are aware of the need to protect their IT systems, but we’re shocked that such a large proportion has nothing in place to do so.” “We regularly hear reports of professional hacking organisations, whose sole purpose is to steal data and information from businesses. In fact, this type of activity is growing rapidly and business owners need to take steps to protect their businesses.”

Protecting a business from hackers and online fraudsters isn’t necessarily a complicated or costly activity. By simply making sure that reliable antivirus and firewall tools are installed and kept up to date, whilst having procedures set in place to guide employees on how they can stay safe online, will accomplish this.

“The challenge isn’t just to do with technology though; it’s primarily about educating business owners and their employees on what they need to be aware of. If we as a nation make a start on this, we can severely restrict the online criminals and their activities” Says Spiro.
